The Author

Jalyn Renae Fiske earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College in 2017. That same year, she began her tenure as Fiction Editor for James Gunn's Ad Astra magazine and was the Editor-in-Chief for The Pitkin Review. In 2025, she took on the role of Faculty Coordinator for the Ad Astra Institute for Science Fiction & the Speculative Imagination.
Jalyn writes blends of science fiction, fantasy, and horror that explore themes of identity and transformation. Her writing style is lyrical yet unsettling, playful yet haunting. Recently, she's been interested in cosmic horror and Nordic folklore. Some of her creative heroes include Nnedi Okorafor, Guillermo Del Toro, Lauren Marx, and Stephanie Pui-Min Law, if that helps nail down her aesthetic.
Jalyn's short stories, poems, and essays have appeared in The Science Fiction Tarot anthology, Allegory, Wyldblood, Luna Station Quarterly, Fabled Planet, and NewMyths, among others. Her debut short story collection, Side Quest: Stories, was released in November 2024 and has garnered several indie author awards.
